Organised KAOS was initially set up on Friday nights to address issues of arson and anti-social behaviour in the Upper Amman Valley, South Wales.
Organised KAOS provides a safe place for young people and has introduced challenging skills based arts provision to a geographical area where it previously did not exist.
Organised KAOS is an organisation was incorporated on the 6th January 2010 and began trading on the 1st July 2010.
There is a core of five individuals associated with Organised KAOS:
Managing Director – Nicola Hemsley
Administrator and Aerial Coach – Rowan Megan Whitehead
Volunteer Building Manager – Vince Pitts
Fire, Health and Safety Officer – Nicola Sumner
However this core of five individuals is not the full representation of the organisation. Organised KAOS is supported by a wide cross section of the community, who give their time in a myriad of different ways to support the organisation.
What we do!
For the young people involved, Organised KAOS develops the young people in terms of their strength, co-ordination and communication skills. Organised KAOS also provides an exciting platform for young people to master a variety of circus skills, developing physical strength, self confidence and stamina.
Organised KAOS not only provide courses for the local young people, but also generates income by utilising the skills of the young people through participating in a variety of income generating activities such as:
• Day parades
• Night time parades/ Lantern parades
• Fire performances
All of these activities are of tremendous benefit to the young people and are a mechanism for generating the income needed to support the activities that are delivered in the community.
Organised KAOS also provide specialist workshops and team building sessions to external clients to generate additional income which include:
• Cord lisse
• Aerial hoop
• Germal wheel
• Dura and extreme power stilts
• Performance and theatre craft
• Acrobatics/ acrobalance
• Fire skills masterclass
Achievements/ External work
Organised KAOS, although a young social enterprise, have not hesitated in proactively seeking out work, and have not simply waited to be approached to undertake activities. The company have been involved in high profile projects since its inception, which include:
• Participating in the Michael Sheen film the Passion which was filmed locally in Port Talbot
• Invited to perform in a Goggle launch in Liverpool
• Students being accepted onto the only two higher education courses that are around the theme of circus
The company is continuing to grow and strengthen. It is an exciting time for the company who have leased a building from the local chapel and are working tirelessly to improve its condition with the aim of becoming a first rate community facility. The company has received multiple grants due to the hard work of the team that are contributing to this fantastic build.
Organised KAOS is a strong promoter of engaging with young people but also to encourage young people to fulfil their dreams, and in these times of high young unemployment, Organised KAOS is doing its part to support their young people. An example of this can be seen with Rowan, who currently works as the administrator for the company and undertakes coaching duties as well. Rowan has been encouraged under the umbrella of the wider organisation to set up her own social enterprise providing training and delivering performances, thereby utilising her aerial skills and recently gained social enterprise experience.
For the young people involved, Organised KAOS is an inspirational and transformational organisation and the work that is being carried out with the disengaged youth of the Upper Amman Valley has provided a marked difference to the area in terms of anti social behaviour.
